My career as an educator began in the fall of 1999 when I student taught in a Hurden Looker kindergarten classroom. Upon graduation, I was hired as a permanent substitute in 4th grade, and then a building substitute at George Washington Elementary School, which was 5th and 6th grade at the time. In September of 2000 I was hired as a first grade teacher at A. P Morris, which I had the pleasure of doing for just over 12 years. As a teacher, I also enjoyed working as the APM technology assistant, Even Start teacher and co-coordinator, extended day teacher, and assistant Girls Volleyball Coach. In November of 2012, I became the Education Data Supervisor.
My bachelor's degree in Human Ecology is from Montclair State University, where I concentrated in Early Childhood Education. My reading specialist, supervisor, and principal certificates were obtained through Kean University. My school administrator certificate is through Thomas Edison State University and NJEXCEL. It has been a pleasure growing with the community for the past 21 years.
We live in a perpetually changing world where new technologies are being developed every second. Nobody over the age of 30 ever said. "I want to work for Google when I grow up," because these positions didn't even exist yet. However, Google has been one of the top 10 companies to work at for over a decade, and has been ranked #1 for seven of those ten years. In order to prepare our students for positions that are still under construction in our imaginations, our instructional focus is shifting to increase the incorporation of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. We are confident these skills will provide our students with the essential foundation to be successful in any career.
There is little that cannot be learned with the help of the internet. We are excited to be working towards harnessing its power to motivate and engage our students, by designing lessons that challenge our students to be independent thinkers, creators, and owners of their own learning.
Our goal was to create a document that will serve as an educational tool to help teachers develop lessons that will inspire students to create their own learning paths and construct their own knowledge in all content areas. Technology has become such an integral part of our social and personal lives.
Below, you will find a Symbaloo, which I hope you will find to be a visually appealing and user-friendly way to save and share internet resources. These sites have been reviewed, tested, and recommended by educators and educational technology experts, and have been collected over a number of years, so we are excited to finally share it with you! Everything is FREE and cloud based, so there are no downloads required. (Some of the sites are free with some limitations, but we did not include any paid sites, unless the district already has paid the accounts, like iSafe and Brain Pop.)
Clicking on an icon below will take you to a collection of free resources in that category. Some pages, such as the "Resources-Student" have been designed for one particular group of individuals. Others, like the PARCC page, have resources that are highlighted and grouped together. If you hover your mouse over the highlighted sections, it will tell you who that collection is geared to, whether it be parents, teachers, or students within a particular age range.
