On April 23, 2024, the Academic Decathlon team and the Art Club went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City @metmuseum. They were able to explore artwork and sculptures from different cultures over the centuries. Two of the special exhibits the students could view were the Harlem Renaissance and Indian Skies, which included paintings and drawings from India. The main reason for visiting the museum was to see two particular pieces that the Academic Decathlon studied this school year: "Jar with Dragon" and "Mummy with an Inserted Panel Portrait of a Youth." "Jar with Dragon" is from early fifteenth-century China. This jar is important because the blue and white porcelain used an innovative technique using ceramics. This porcelain became a huge source of trade. "Mummy with an Inserted Panel Portrait of a Youth" is from 80-100 CE in Egypt during the Roman period. This piece represents the combination of the Roman and Egyptian cultures. Yesterday's (4/28/2024) Autism Awareness and Acceptance Event at Ola Edwards Community School was a massive success! These photos are but a snapshot of all the fun, and the wide range of activities that took place at the event. Families, students, and staff got to enjoy a beautiful day outdoors with food, ice cream, games, balloon artists, a magician, a giant inflatable slide, a petting zoo, and more! Shoutout to the Hillside Board of Education members in attendance, @hillside_firefighters, and @hillsidepolicenj who not only showed up, but participated in the fun themselves and provided a donation to the cause! The @nygiants community relations team donated supplies and gear to the Hillside High School Football team! Hillside Public Schools Athletic Director McNeil and Coach Baris took a trip to the New York Giants Quest Diagnostics Training Center on April 26th, 2024, to pick up cleats, socks, and other donated items for our Hillside Comets! Mrs. Awad's A Day class at W.O.K. Middle school (with 2 understudies from Public Speaking B Day) performed a scene and song from the famous musical production Annie for Mr. Lockyear's and Ms. Goglia's classes! The audience smiled from ear to ear during the performance! The cast stayed after the performance for a Q&A session, where they were asked great questions about their ambitions in theater and what they did to prepare themselves for the skit. Quite a few audience members even asked for autographs!
