Congratulations to the Hillside High School Academic Decathlon team! The team came in fourth place in the Regional Competition, which took place on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at West Windsor-Plainsboro South High School! Barry Louis received an Honorable Mention in Literature. Emmanuella Oluyomi received an Honorable Mention for Interview. Salimata Sy received a Bronze medal in Music. Jeremy Laryea received a Silver medal in Interview. Lastly, with seven medals is Pranay Talati, who received Bronze medals in Art, Science, Literature, Speech, and Interview; a Silver medal in Music; and a Gold medal in Economics! Benjamin Pilcik was made MVP of the team! Academic Decathlon Coaches Michael Mandy and Jacqueline Corritore would like to thank current and retired staff for volunteering at the event. This is the team's fifth year in a row going to the States Competition, which will take place on Saturday, March, 1st, 2025! Amazing work, Decathlon team!

The International Holocaust Remembrance Day, or the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, is an international memorial day held annually on January 27th that commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, which resulted in the genocide of one third of the Jewish peoples in Europe, along with countless members of other minorities by Nazi Germany between 1933 and 1945. January 27th was chosen to commemorate the date when the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945.
The day remembers the killing of two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population and millions of others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. It was designated by United Nations General Assembly resolution 60-7 on November 1st 2005 and has since been recognized in over 60 countries in various ways. George Santayana wrote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” To commemorate and recognize today, we ask for our Hillside Public Schools community to take a moment of silence, in reflection and remembrance in the hopes for a better tomorrow for all.

On Saturday, January 18th, 2025, Hillside Public Schools District hosted its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Program at Hillside High School. The program was amazing not only because of the exceptional performances by each of our schools' students, as well as the decorative artwork done by Hillside Innovation Academy students, but also because of the high positive energy of the audience! The auditorium was full of parents, Hillside community members, Hillside Board of Education members, Hillside Town Council members, families, staff, and more! Great work to all of our students, including Hillside High School Senior Sarah Auguste who was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event! Islamic Heritage Month, designated for January each year in New Jersey, was established following Governor Phil Murphy’s signing of a joint resolution (SJR105/AJR194) on April 29, 2023. It recognizes the diverse contributions of Muslim Americans to arts, culture, education, politics, and science. It also aims to foster greater understanding and unity by highlighting Islamic traditions and the role of Muslim Americans in building communities.

The @scholastic R.E.A.L. Mentor Reading event took place today (1/10/2025)! Hillside Public Schools' staff members, Hillside High School students, Hillside Policemen, Firefighters, Hillside Board of Education members, and more, served as mentors! Our mentors traveled to A.P. Morris Early Childhood Center, and all the Hillside Elementary Schools to read to our young students, helping to instill a love of reading in our students! Not only were our young students read to, but they also got to bring home a new book to add to their home libraries!
