On Saturday, March 1st, 2025, the Hillside High School Academic Decathlon team competed in the State Competition! The team came in 8th place in the State of New Jersey and scored over 30,000 points for the first time in the school's career! The top scorers for the team were Emmanuella Oluyomi, Salimata Sy, and Pranay Talati. In addition, Pranay received a Gold medal in Art and Music; a Silver medal in Economics; Bronze medals in Language and Literature, Science, and Interview; and an Honorable Mention in Social Science! Jeremy Laryea was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Awards were given at the annual ceremony on Monday, March 10th, 2025, at the Brownstone in Paterson, New Jersey. Coach Corritore and Coach Mandy would like to thank current and retired staff for volunteering at the competition and the Hillside High School administration for their support this school year. Last week in Ms. Petroccia's 5th-grade class at Hurden Looker Elementary School, students worked with their class pet, Digit (@digitnoodle) during science investigations! Students brought Digit along as they did the black box investigation; where students had to figure out what the inside of a black box looks like without opening it, and the Spaghetti Engineering Virtual lab (Vlab) where students tested how much spaghetti could hold a certain amount of weight, to resemble how bridges are made! #hillsidenj #hillsidepublicschools #vlab #studentsfirst #newpride #newpathways #newpossibilities #science

Today (3/6/2025), was a historic day for Hillside Public Schools! Hip-Hop Legend Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of Run DMC (@kingdmc) visited Hillside Public Schools District this week, Read Across America Week, March 2 – 6, 2025! Iconic hip-hop pioneer Darryl “DMC” McDaniels presented his children’s book, “Darryl’s Dream” to third and fourth-grade students from our elementary schools at Ola Edwards Community School! "Darryl's Dream," co-authored by Shawnee Warfield, Johnny Warfield, and Adam Padilla, with illustrations by Tristan Tait is a heartwarming story that encourages children to embrace their creativity, build confidence, and find their unique voice! Each student received a signed copy of "Darryl's Dream" to bring home!
