We have two contest winners at Hillside High School for the New Jersey Speech and Debate League's Online Festival Series! The New Jersey Speech and Debate League hosted a virtual festival series centered around the theme of "Celebrating Earth Day." Hillside High School proudly had two winners in the program. Twelfth grader Perla Garcia, was a Bronze Medal Finalist for writing and performing her own poem on Earth Day! Tenth grader, Licelys Melendez, read children's literature aloud, earning her a Silver Medal of Honor! Today (4/17/2025), Hillside Public Schools and @scholastic hosted their 2025 R.E.A.L. Read Festival! Hundreds of Hillside Public Schools students in grades 4 - 6 from our three elementary schools (Deanna G. Taylor Academy, Hurden Looker Elementary School, and Ola Edwards Community School) filled Woodfield Stadium for a fun-filled day with interactive literacy activities. This event culminated in the celebration of the partnership between Hillside Public Schools and Scholastic, specifically the Scholastic R.E.A.L. (Read, Excel, Achieve, Lead) Mentorship Program! The Scholastic R.E.A.L. This series's third and final "Brothers Bonding with Books and Basketball" session was this past Saturday, April 12th, 2025! April 12th's session was the perfect finale to a great program for our 5th through 8th-grade students! Students in attendance played various basketball games and participated in activities that connected basketball with reading and literacy!
