Today (2/5/2025) is National Read Aloud Day, also known as World Read Aloud Day! Hillside Public Schools District had a massively successful World Read Aloud Day that consisted of Superintendent Glover, Hillside Board of Education President Ms. Best, @mayorvertreese, Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes Leon, Union County Commissioner Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded, @hillside_firefighters, @hillsidepolicenj, Hillside Public Schools Directors, Supervisors, Teachers, and Staff reading to students! Superintendent Glover read to Ms. Rosamilia's 5th-grade homeroom at Ola Edwards Community School. Today (2/5/2025) students from Mr. Skelton and Ms. Desanto's Biology classes attended a program at Students2Science @students_2_science in East Hanover, New Jersey! The students worked in a lab alongside instructors from the BioMedical Industry solving real-world problems and presenting the data they collected. The International Holocaust Remembrance Day, or the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, is an international memorial day held annually on January 27th that commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, which resulted in the genocide of one third of the Jewish peoples in Europe, along with countless members of other minorities by Nazi Germany between 1933 and 1945. January 27th was chosen to commemorate the date when the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945. The day remembers the killing of two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population and millions of others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. It was designated by United Nations General Assembly resolution 60-7 on November 1st 2005 and has since been recognized in over 60 countries in various ways. Construction of Hillside Public Schools District’s Deanna G. Taylor Academy Modular Addition has been completed! On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the New Wing's official grand opening/ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Deanna G. Taylor Academy! Hillside Public Schools Board of Education members, administrators, principals, partners, staff, Hillside township dignitaries, and family members of Deanna G. Taylor were all in attendance for the marvelous event! A special thank you to Superintendent Glover, Hillside Board of Education President Best, Bishop Assemblyman Reginald Atkins, Principal of Deanna G. Hillside Public Schools has a new student transport van equipped with a wheelchair lift! The new vehicle is a full-sized van equipped with a wheelchair lift and can accommodate 1 wheelchair and 7 additional passengers. This new vehicle will allow our district to transport students in wheelchairs without the additional cost of using a private contractor. The van will also be used for small group transportation related to school activities, in addition to student transport to and from school!
