Today, (11/22/2024), the @scholastic R.E.A.L. (Read, Excel, Achieve, Lead) Mentorship Program commenced at Hillside Public Schools! Community leaders, and volunteers visited Ola Edwards Community School, Hurden Looker, Deanna Taylor Academy, and A.P. Morris Early Childhood Center to read to students! This program is designed to deepen literacy and instill a love of reading in our students through mentors, who will share an hour of their time once a month! In Mrs. Corrothers' first-grade class at A.P. Morris Early Childhood Center, students used sky observation charts as data about daytime and nighttime hours on two different days! Students used snap cubes to represent and compare the lengths of daytime and nighttime hours. Scholars then used a bar graph they analyzed to determine what causes daytime to be longer or shorter!
