Nineteen K-12 Educators from across the district participated in a Climate Change Professional Development (PD) presented by Rutgers! Teachers learned the science behind climate change, reviewed standards and resources, and engaged in a Project Based Learning activity to design wind turbines! Teachers will take ideas from the workshop to create engaging climate change lessons for their classes. The event was made possible by the @NewJerseyDOE Climate Awareness Education Grant!

Hillside Innovation Academy (HIA) held its 1st Annual Literature Festival on June 1st under the advisement of HIA's English Language Arts teacher, Mr. James Joyner! Scholars read original texts, poetry, podcasts, and news reports they created, during the event. Parents toured the HIA building listening to the different presentations, and the literature fest concluded with a game of Kahoot with parents, scholars, and staff participants!

On May 23rd, 2023, Hillside Innovation Academy (HIA) held its Iron Chef student cooking competition! The 7th and 8th-grade competitors had a great time. Though the competition was close, the judges selected the 7th-grade burger as the winning creation, and their burger will be featured on the June lunch menu at HIA! Congratulations Mr. Todaro & Ms. Williams' second-grade class at Ola Edwards Community School for winning the "Excite Reading All-Star Games"! The students were encouraged to read through our new online platform Learning Ally for 20 minutes a day. The class read for a total of 2,206 minutes to win the game! Learning Ally provided a pizza party for the winning class.
